Born on December 16, 1988, Ermira "Mira" Murati is a well-known Albanian engineer and IT executive who has been OpenAI's Chief Technology Officer since 2018.  Demonstrating exceptional talent in mathematics from an early age, she participated in numerous Olympiads and competitions. At 16, she earned a scholarship to Pearson United World College of the Pacific in Canada, and graduated in 2005. She subsequently went on to pursue a dual degree in the United States, earning a 2012 BE from Dartmouth's Thayer School of Engineering and a 2011 BA in Mathematics from Colby College. In 2024, Dartmouth awarded her an honorary Doctor of Science for her contributions to AI and technology.

Murati's career includes a brief period at Zodiac Aerospace, followed by a significant role at Tesla as a Product Manager for the Model X. She later joined Leap Motion, contributing to augmented reality innovations. Since joining OpenAI, Murati has led the development of transformative AI technologies, including ChatGPT, DALL-E, and the GPT series. In November 2023, she briefly served as OpenAI’s interim CEO during a leadership transition. Praised by Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, Murati is recognized for blending technical expertise with commercial acumen, advancing OpenAI’s mission of responsible AI development.
